Collegiate Honors Tia Owen for Excellence

The 2021 Lower School Craigie Endowment for Teaching Excellence Award is presented to Tia Owen.
Established in 1996 by the family of Beese Craigie, a former fourth grade teacher and Board Chair at Collegiate, this fund rewards a Lower School teacher who exemplifies the values and ideals of teaching at Collegiate.

Being known for loving children and supporting their growth are characteristics often used to describe a Lower School teacher. This year’s Lower School Craigie Endowment for Teaching Excellence Award recipient exemplifies these characteristics with her kindness and joy every day. While providing a nurturing learning environment for her students, she understands that children thrive with both love and exciting experiences. Often one of the first teachers to be in her classroom in the morning or one of the last to leave, her young students are blessed to have her thoughtfully guiding them daily.

She continually supports her students in making good decisions and strong connections between their learning and the world around them. She is thoughtful about the environment and activities that will be foundational for inquisitive thinkers and responsible citizens.  Being in her class brings happiness and excitement to the students and provides opportunities for these young cougars to grow respect and appreciation for each other. She is willing to dress up to bring joy, and she will go out all in green and gold to teach JK students what it means to be a Cougar. .

This year’s recipient is a wonderful colleague who is known for her positive and upbeat outlook! She is a reflection of happiness and grace for her students and colleagues. If a helping hand is needed, this person will readily volunteer and follow through beautifully! She completely exemplifies the values of community, love of learning and excellence at Collegiate. Please join me in congratulating Tia Owen, the winner of the 2021 Craigie Endowment for Teaching Excellence.
