Announcing Collegiate's Next Board Chair

The Collegiate Board of Trustees has enthusiastically approved Carter M. Reid as Vice Chair and Board Secretary. Carter will become Board Chair on July 1, 2021.
Dear Collegiate Community:

It is my pleasure to share that on February 1, 2021, the Collegiate Board of Trustees enthusiastically approved Carter M. Reid as Vice Chair and Board Secretary for the remainder of this school year. Carter will become our Board Chair on July 1, 2021.

Carter is Executive Vice President, Chief of Staff and Corporate Secretary of Dominion Energy, and the President of Dominion’s subsidiary company that provides the administrative services, including human resources, technology, facilities management and security, to its operating companies. Carter’s professional life also includes service to a number of non-profit organizations. Carter graduated from James Madison University (’90) and University of Richmond School of Law (’93).

As we look to the School’s future, Carter is very well-suited to carry our torch forward. Carter has been a Collegiate Trustee since 2014. She currently serves on the Executive Committee and chairs the Board’s Finance Committee.

As you may remember, Carter was co-chair of our strategic planning initiative. The first phase listening process gathered input from over 400 parents, faculty, alumni and students before it was put on hold last March. This important work will be re-ignited once we can gather safely in person and engage our entire community in key topics.

Most importantly, Carter understands first-hand what makes our Collegiate community so remarkable. She and her husband, Joe, are the parents of Katherine (Collegiate Class of 2016) and Will (Collegiate Class of 2018). Carter deeply appreciates what the Collegiate experience brought to her own children and holds for future generations.

As I complete my two-year term as Chairman, I would like to thank my fellow Trustees. Their passion, conviction, purpose and dedication are inspiring in advancing our mission to create a diverse and inclusive community of learners committed to a challenging and supportive educational experience that will foster the intellectual, moral, emotional and physical development of each student.

I also would like to extend my deep appreciation of and gratitude for our talented and tireless Head of School, Penny Evins, and our extraordinary faculty and staff. Together they carry our School’s timeless values forward – honor, love of learning, excellence, respect and community. This year, perhaps more than any other, has proven how dedicated our entire Collegiate community is to our students, the future leaders of our world.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your deep commitment to and continued care for our Collegiate.

Onward,
John W. Martin ’78
Chairman of the Board
