COVID-19 Dashboard Update

Dear Collegiate Families:

We continue to monitor the health of our community with our COVID-19 dashboard and ongoing dialogue with national, state and regional advisors and medical consultants. As of today, you will see reflected on our dashboard an increase in exposures (potential and confirmed). We want to provide you with context for understanding our dashboard:
  • Our medical consultants remind us that our School has not been the source of an outbreak, and Collegiate’s protocols and systems are working.
  • One group of potential exposures is a JK classroom. From our contact tracing protocol, we feel that out of an abundance of caution, it is safest to deem the class as potential exposures and quarantine.
  • Another group of potential exposures are lower school students who were involved in an outside of school activity where our School protocols were not followed. All students who were involved in this event are deemed potential exposures to a case and need to quarantine.
  • As a reminder, the CDC recently changed the definition of an exposure from 15 consecutive minutes of close contact (within six feet) to 15 cumulative minutes within 24 hours. With this stricter criteria in place, an increase in confirmed and potential exposures is a greater possibility. See the CDC website on quarantine for guidance.
You, as parents and caregivers, are critical partners in our efforts to keep our community healthy and safe. We need your help in preserving our on-campus learning. On behalf of our entire community, I ask that you, as a family, recommit to our Responsible Cougar Pact. To ensure we have timely information, if your child develops symptoms, tests positive or is a potential or confirmed exposure, please call (rather than email) division heads or nurses.

Looking ahead to winter break, a reminder that the CDC says travel may increase your chance of spreading and getting COVID-19 (see CDC travel website). Wherever you go and whatever you do, please follow protocols. Limiting contacts to as few as possible is up to each of us and requires what may seem like sacrifices. We are all in this together, and I am hopeful we can each do our part.

Thank you in advance for your continued and invaluable partnership. I am so grateful for the commitment of our faculty and staff, the students' cooperation, and the healthcare professionals who are doing extraordinary work and need our help to ensure we do not add to their labor or the devastating health crisis. I thank you for your continued support, partnership and the cooperative spirit that is essential for us to be our best during this complex time.

As promised last March, we will do our very best to keep you informed and apprised. May you be well and if we can be of assistance, please do be in touch with me, a member of our administrative team, or our faculty and staff.

Sincerely,
Penny B. Evins
