Collegiate's Lower School Honors its Teachers

The 2020 Lower School Craigie Endowment for Teaching Excellence Award presented was to 3rd Grade Teacher Lauren Brown.

Established in 1996 by the family of Beese Craigie, a former 4th Grade teacher and Board Chair at Collegiate, this fund rewards a Lower School teacher who exemplifies the values and ideals of teaching at Collegiate.

Child centered, loving, engaging and incredibly kind are words often used to describe this year’s Lower School Craigie Endowment for Teaching Excellence Award recipient. Her classroom is a stimulating and structured environment where her students are encouraged to learn and grow together as a community. She continually helps her students make connections between their learning and the world in which they live. Every morning our recipient greets her students with a loving smile and instills her love and support for all that is best for them. Being in her class brings joy along with the hard work, excitement along with the concentrated effort, and respect and appreciation for each other. Her love for her students and her craft is visible to everyone that knows her.

This year’s award honoree works diligently to infuse the understanding of economics into her teaching and has supported her grade level colleagues as well as others in exploring creative additions to the curriculum which foster long term economic understandings. This teacher is known for her positive and upbeat outlook on all things! She is a reflection of happiness and grace for her students and colleagues. If a helping hand is needed, this person will readily volunteer and follow through beautifully! She completely exemplifies the values of community, love of learning and excellence at Collegiate.

Her students thrive in an atmosphere where she sets high expectations surrounded by compassion and understanding. She is always in search of new and exciting ways to reach children and spark their enthusiasm for learning. She is truly a joy for all who know her! Please join me in congratulating Lauren Brown, the winner of the 2020 Craigie Endowment for Teaching Excellence.
