Special Gifts, Assembly Recognize Seniors

Beginning in the afternoon, seniors received gift boxes delivered to their doors from Upper School faculty and staff. In the boxes were a specially designed Class of 2020 sweatshirt, Collegiate trinkets and a personal note from Head of School Penny Evins. 

Later in the evening, seniors and their families watched an assembly featuring remarks from Mrs. Evins, Head of Upper School Patrick Loach and class presidents Joseph Ascoli and Hayley Dunn. In addition, faculty and staff from over the years offered their well wishes to the Class of 2020.

Mrs. Evins thanked the Class of 2020 members for their warm welcome in her first year at Collegiate.

“They didn’t need me as their Head of School as much as I needed them,” she continued. ”I was inspired by this Collegiate class and did not want to disappoint them. Thank you for letting me crowd your space.”

She continued by commending the seniors for their enthusiasm and leadership.

“As Head of School, the tone of the year is set by our seniors,” she said. “Simply put, a senior class can give a whole lot of momentum to or take energy from a positive flow during the school year. As our seniors, your spirit, your behavior, your collective mindset has brought a momentum and energy to all of those who surround you.”

With their year now ending, Mrs. Evins deemed the class prepared to leave Collegiate for the next chapter in their lives.

“These seniors, they are ready,” she said. “And Collegiate is ready for me to thank you for a job very well done. Once again, this is not goodbye, but instead congratulations.”

Students also received a special message from Russell Wilson ‘07, quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, who encouraged them to dream big.

“I’m rooting for every single one of you,” he said. “Keep dreaming. Keep believing. Why not you? Dream big. Make it happen. Go for it. Shoot for the stars and I’ll see you there. Go, Cougs!”
