Reminders to Help Prevent the Spread of Communicable Illness
Dear Parents,

As a follow-up to yesterday’s email about how Collegiate School continues to monitor and respond to the latest developments in the outbreak of COVID-19, we wanted to share the following information from our School nurses with you.

Reminders to Help Prevent the Spread of Communicable Illness

1)    Stay home when you are sick.
  • Please review Collegiate’s sick policy here.
2)    Alert divisional secretaries or RN if a student is out with a diagnosed communicable illness.

3)    Wash your hands (20 seconds is recommended).
  • If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer (especially before eating).
  • Hand sanitizer/cleaning wipes will be available on buses used for field trips and athletic practices.
4)    Avoid close contact with people who are displaying signs of illness.
  • Avoid sharing drinks.
  • Avoid handshakes and fist bumps.
  • Keep a 3-foot distance between you and others if possible.
5)    Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

6)    Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Germs are often spread by touching a contaminated surface and then touching one’s eyes, nose or mouth.
7)    Practice other good health habits.
  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Be physically active
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Eat nutritious food
Your students have, by now, heard from their division heads about these tips. If your student was absent yesterday or today, we ask that you communicate this information to him or her.

We thank you for partnering with us. If you have any questions, please contact Kathryn Heidt at kathryn_heidt@collegiate-va.org.
