Head of School Offers Thoughts, Stories About Life and Self

Head of School Penny Evins addressed Collegiate Upper School students today at their morning assembly.
Mrs. Evins shared with students how she thinks of her hometown of New Orleans often during this time of year, with Mardi Gras just a few weeks away. The city shaped her into who she is: wife, mother, sister, counselor, Head of School — and flawed human being.

“I make mistakes,” she said. “But I try to get things right and I think that’s what matters. I try to manage and consider all sides of an argument and all perspectives in the room.”

Mrs. Evins encouraged students to stop by her office for conversations about their hopes and dreams for Collegiate and beyond.

“I want to know you better and build an even greater community by ensuring that our Collegiate lives and embraces our mission with intentional and shared efforts,” she said.

She asked students to remember her Convocation address last September, when she spelled out the word “Cougar” and charged them to courageously observe, understand and go as responsible citizens.

“I asked you to get to know each other and make ours a better world,” Mrs. Evins said. “Let’s get to this big work together.”
