Collegiate School Celebrates 4th Grade Graduation

The Collegiate School Class of 2027 celebrated its graduation from the Lower School this morning in front of a packed Seal Center full of family, friends and faculty. Displayed on the wall behind the students, the scoreboard read 20:27, period 4, 0 fouls.
One hundred-and-fourteen 4th Graders, processed in to Pomp and Circumstance, followed by a performance of Jason Mraz’s Have It All. As the students sang, “And may the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows, and may the road less paved be the road that you follow,” the excitement for their future “across the bridge” filled the room with promise.

Debbie Miller, Head of Lower School, delivered heartfelt remarks to the class.

“Every step of the way,” she said, “you all have been caring and responsible citizens. Your academic growth and growth as leaders has been remarkable.”

She acknowledged the Lower School teachers for their guidance and love for the children. Mrs. Miller spoke about how both growth and nature are change.

“They are woven together,” she said, “both present opportunities in different ways.”

She applauded the 4th Graders for their year of service and offered these words of encouragement and advice.

“Everywhere are opportunities for growth and change,” she said, “you decide who you will become. You all have the key to unlock your own potential.”

She continued by encouraging them to take time to explore the world, to notice the unexpected and to find meaning in every experience. She reminded them that summer is a gift and privilege and to enjoy all the wonderful things summer has to offer. She reminded them to come back and visit often.

In closing, Mrs. Miller shared a quote by A. A. Milne:

You are braver than you believe,
Stronger than you seem,
Smarter than you think,
And loved more than you know.

Certificates in hand, the new 5th Graders recessed to an enthusiastic rendition of I am a Promise, singing:

“I am a promise, I am a possibility ...”

Congrats to the Class of 2027. See you across the bridge!
