Collegiate Coach Assists USA Basketball Athletes

Collegiate School Head Boys' Varsity Basketball Coach and Program Leader Del Harris is among seven high school coaches from across the nation seleccted to serve on the USA Basketball Men's U16 National Team coaching staff at training camp later this month.

The traning camp will be held at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from May 22-29, and USA Basketball will choose the roster for the 2019 USA Men's U16 National Team from among the ranks of high school players who participate. Athletes who secure those 12 spots will represent USA Basketball at the FIBA U16 Americas Qualifying Tournament in Brazil in early June.

The USA Basketball Men's Developmental National Team Committee, chaired by USA Basketball Men's National Team Director Sean Ford, is responsible for selecting the court coaches, who will assist the USA Basketball coaching staffs with on-court drills and skills sessions, and help guide scrimmages throughout the camp.

"These coaches were selected because of their extensive experience," Mr. Ford said. "Having seven successful coaches at the 2019 USA U16 training camp will assure that all of our participating athletes will have the opportunity to improve their skillset and grow as players."

Coach Harris has assisted with several USA Basketball Youth Development coach academies and regional camps, including the inaugural USA Basketball Boys Gold Camp for midddle schoolers from around the nation that Collegiate hosted this past weekend. His participation in the U16 camp will mark his first USA Basketball coaching assignment.

"I’m very humbled and appreciative of the honor to represent Collegiate School," Coach Harris said. "I'm excited to work with some of the top players in the country and very grateful for the opportunity to influence young people through the game of basketball and represent my country in a positive way."
