Collegiate Lower School Kindness Club Welcomes Special Visitor

Several weeks ago, Collegiate School 4th Grader Catherine Conner was interviewed by NBC12 about how she started a Kindness Club. Immediately, Gini Bonnell, a Richmond resident, contacted Lower School counselor Kelsey Felton and asked to meet the club members.
Ms. Bonnell makes “Be Kind” signs and distributes them to schools, local businesses and individuals. Her hope is that the signs spread messages of love and kindness. To date, she has distributed 3,500 signs across the world.

Ms. Bonnell visited members of the Kindness Club this week to share her story and bring them their own sign to keep at school. The inaugural Kindness Club members will add their signatures to it and find an appropriate place to hang it for all Lower Schoolers to see.

“Students in the Kindness Club loved hearing from Ms. Bonnell and asked great questions about how she has distributed her signs,” Mrs. Felton said.

In addition to the sign for Collegiate, Ms. Bonnell gave each student her own personal sign and encouraged the girls to do what they thought was best with it — keep it for themselves, give as a gift or share with someone who needs a bit of kindness.

“The girls were thrilled!” Mrs. Felton said. “Many of the them are planning to give it to their moms for Mother's Day!”
