Twenty Cougars Named to RTD All-Metro Teams

Twenty Collegiate School athletes have earned Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro honors for their performances in their respective sports during the 2018-19 winter season.
Collegiate senior Zach Cram has been named All-Metro Swimmer of the Year.

The N.C. State signee registered the area’s fastest times in five events: 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley. He also ranked second in the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.

“Zach is one of the most well-rounded swimmers I’ve ever had,” said Collegiate coach Mike Peters. “He was one of the best two or three swimmers in almost every event in the City of Richmond. He consistently was willing to go up against the best swimmer from the other teams. He looked for ways to help out the team any way he could. Zach’s work ethic is amazing. He was very much a leader by example but also knew when to put in the words to back up his swimming.”

Cram is the third Collegiate swimmer honored as All-Metro Swimmer of the Year. The others are Stuart Ferguson (2008, 2009), Rachel Naurath (2008, 2009, 2010) and Thomas Stephens (2010, 2011).

Cram's teammate Aaron Moore earned second-team All-Metro honors in 1-meter diving.

Northwestern-bound senior Robbie Beran earned first team honors on the T-D All-Metro basketball team.

A 6-9 forward who’s as comfortable leading the fast break and shooting the 3-pointer as he is posting up on the low block, Beran averaged 20.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and three blocks per game for the Cougars, who finished 15-10 overall and 8-4 in the Prep League.

He’s the first Collegiate boys basketball player to earn first-team All-Metro recognition since Jake McGee in 2010.

"Robbie’s hard work has paid off," said Collegiate coach Del Harris. "He’s been extremely coachable. He’s set goals that I don’t know that even he realized he could accomplish. I really think that the best is yet to come.”
