Envision Richmond Teams Implement Community Outreach Ideas

Our 8th Graders have been busy this week with Phase 2 of Envision Richmond, during which they've designed some type of community outreach to the organizations they worked with last fall.
The students' efforts this spring serve as a culmination of the 2018-19 Envision Richmond program, which kicked off last fall when all 8th Graders spent a week immersing themselves into 30-plus local nonprofits. They gained leadership and problem-solving skills and used them to provide those organizations with potential solutions for challenges and needs.

In late March, the "Green Space" team of students visited 6PIC Innovation/Groundwork RVA and helped the organization with gardening needs. Group members for "Teens with Mental Health Issues" went shopping, then delivered items on the wish list for the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. Rachel Reynolds, program manager at the treatment center, was so appreciative of these items, said Laurie Shadowen, Middle School Humanities teacher and Envision Richmond coordinator.

Teams of 8th Graders will continue executing outreach projects through the end of the month.
