Annual Cougar Classic Basketball Game Stars Faculty and Staff

Collegiate School faculty and staff took to the court in Seal Athletic Center last evening for the Cougar Classic, a highly anticipated, time-honored School tradition.
Before the big game, JK-8th Grade students played games of Knockout and enjoyed snacks. The faculty-staff matchup, which is organized by the Parents’ Association, featured 24 players from all School divisions as well as admission, auxiliary services, the physical plant, communications and athletics.

After enthusiastic warmups, players energized the crowd of students and their families, who cheered on their favorites. The green team dominated most of the first half before the white team, led by Middle School PE teacher Kevin Coffey and Head Boys Basketball Coach and Program Leader Del Harris, surged back to cut the score to 38-26 at the half.

To make things a bit more competitive in the second half, announcer (and Senior Director, Annual and Leadership Giving) Shep Lewis ‘96 declared dunks worth 10 points. With just seconds left, the white team pulled within two points until Mike Hamby, irrigation technician on the green team, slammed two consecutive dunks, sealing an exciting 89-72 victory.

The Cougar Classic brings the School community together for a more casual and spirited event, said event co-chairs Charlotte Nelson and Amy Quinby.

“We hope students enjoy seeing their teachers in a different atmosphere and cheering them on!”
