Upper Schoolers Share Experiences During Black History Month Discussion

Three members of United Sisters and Brothers, Collegiate School’s Upper School resource group for African-American students, participated in a panel discussion during a February 2019 assembly to share their perspectives on their experiences as students of color at Collegiate.
The purpose of the discussion with the students, who all enrolled in Collegiate in Kindergarten, was to provoke thought and provide insight into "what it's like to be in someone else's shoes," Erica Coffey, Collegiate’s Director of Global Engagement and Inclusion, told the 9th-12th Grade student body.

"What they are sharing doesn't speak for all African-American students," she said. "We ask that you be respectful and active listeners. Actively listening is listening without judgment, but rather with your heart."
