4th Grade Welcomes Panelists for Sustainability Discussion

As part of their research for the 4th Grade Capstone, students gathered to listen to scientist and parent, Alex Bradley, sustainable fashion advocate, April Perrin, and sustainability-minded architect and parent, Bo Fairlamb, share their thoughts on how one individual can make a difference in protecting our planet.
Doing more with less, repurposing textiles, and taking advantage of green systems that are readily available are some of the ways that businesses and people are impacting green efforts. Ms. Perrin shared that the average household throws away 70 lbs of clothing per year, which translates into 18 million pounds of yearly textile waste. She charged the students to buy second-hand, hand down clothing, and recycle linens with local animal shelters.

Interesting fact: recycled denim is used for housing insulation.
