Collegiate Students Receive National Merit Recognition

Collegiate School announced this afternoon in an Upper School Assembly the seniors who have been honored with National Merit Scholar Recognition.
Two seniors, Stephen Laming and Sadie Partlow, have been named 2018 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. Of the more than 1.6 million students who took the PSAT in 2017, about 16,000 (less than 1%) were recognized as National Merit Semifinalists.

In addition, at the time of testing, 19 seniors were named National Merit Commended Scholars and include the following current students: Matthew Barbieri, Greer Buell, Sam Buxbaum, Sophia Clark, Zach Cram, Walker Cummins, Grant Ewing, Laura Fairlamb, Eliza Goggins, Mohini Johri, Virginia Kauders, Annie Mahoney, Natasha Makarova, Jensen Richardson, Sarah Robins, Jackson Watkins, Slade Woo and Maddy Zamecnik. Of the more than 1.6 million students who took the PSAT in 2017, among the top 4%, about 34,000, were recognized as National Merit Commended Scholars.

"These students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation,” stated a press release from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. “We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
