Collegiate Upper Schoolers Pledge Honor

Collegiate Upper Schoolers took part in an annual assembly this morning during which they signed the Honor Code in front of their peers and advisors, vowing their commitment to one of the School’s core values.
Honors Council student co-chairs Emma Ahearn and Stephen Laming talked about the important and unique role that the council has at Collegiate.

Signing the Honor Code, Stephen said, “reminds us of the commitment we are making to our peers and our community to hold ourselves to these standards.”

Head of the Upper School Patrick Loach spoke to those assembled about what honor means.

“Honor is the foundation upon which you build your character. And trust is the way we build our community,” he said. “That’s what makes this School special.”

Before each grade level dispersed to various areas of the Upper School campus to sign the Honor Code, Mr. Loach urged students not to sign it in a perfunctory manner.

“This is a chance to start an honorable foundation,” he said. “You are making a declaration of decency, honor and strong character.”
