Students Embark on Summer International Trips

School is not in session, but many Collegiate students are continuing their studies with international travel trips this month.
From June 20-30, Upper School Spanish teachers Esperanza Soria-Nieto, Elsie Bustamante and Hannah Curley will lead 20 students on a trip to Spain, where they will immerse themselves in the language and culture. The trip includes homestays in Seville with Collegiate’s partner school, Colegio Internacional Alminar, and in Cadiz. Students also will visit other cities and cultural sites.

Later in June, Collegiate’s Director of Performing Arts Mike Boyd and Middle School history teacher Laurie Goode will accompany six students to South Africa. There, students will engage in an innovative Global Leadership Program at another of Collegiate’s partner schools, Lebone II College, along with additional schools from around Southern Africa. They also will visit cultural attractions and a safari game reserve.

The trip to Spain serves as further exposure to the Spanish language and culture, while the trip to South Africa serves as leadership development, says Erica Coffey, Collegiate’s Director of Global Engagement and Inclusion.

“Both programs this summer help to strengthen our relationship with our partner schools,” she said. “While both have great benefits for the students, they also serve as professional development for our faculty who travel.”
