Collegiate Seniors Enjoy Final Assembly

On their last day at Collegiate School, seniors took part in a final assembly filled with songs, speeches, a special video and one last visit with their Kindergarten buddies.
Student Council Association Vice Co-Chairs Annie Mahoney and Zaed Karabatek started things off in the Seal Athletic Center by introducing senior Tyler Tunstall, who gave the final senior speech. Tyler spoke of his alter ego, Pr1met1me, and his love of creating music. He was then joined by fellow Collegiate students for a remix of Seasons of Love from the musical Rent.

While photos of their fellow classmates rotated on a screen, the four members who serve as SCA leaders shared thoughts about their time at Collegiate.

Caroline Hall told her fellow classmates that they will never really leave the Collegiate community.

“We we always be alums and members of a community that will always have our backs,” she said.

Lee Kennon remarked that she had been thinking of this last day at Collegiate constantly and how lucky she felt to have been here for 13 years.

“We seniors are beyond ready for what lies ahead thanks to all that Collegiate has given us,” she said.

Kieran Cottrell took to the podium and told his classmates that being around them for all these years has truly been a gift.

“Not only have our classmates made us better people, they have made us who we are,” he said. “Class of 2018, you mean the world to me.”

Finally, Spencer Lyons admitted it took him a long time to appreciate what Collegiate meant to him. In Upper School, he felt Collegiate became a second home for him.

“The School is a special place filled with special people,” he said. “Collegiate offers so much for us.”

He then introduced a group of seniors who entertained the assembly guests with Closing Time by Semisonic.

Patrick Loach, Head of the Upper School, introduced a video of Lower, Middle and Upper School faculty members, who shared words of advice to the Class of 2018.

And as part of the tradition for the seniors’ final assembly, Collegiate Kindergartners — members of the Class of 2030 — serenaded their seniors with "I Am a Promise." The seniors responded by leading "Hail, Collegiate" before matching up with their Cougar buddies to share some special time together over a pizza lunch in Jacobs Gym.

The seniors will return to campus next week for graduation on Friday, May 25.
