Collegiate Earns Curriculum Award

Collegiate School has earned  the 2017-18 Connect the Dots Curriculum Award from The Center for Green Schools.
The School was recognized yesterday during the U.S. Green Building Council (U.S.G.B.C.) Virginia Leadership Awards Ceremony at the University of Richmond for its work integrating sustainability into Collegiate’s JK-12  STEAM program.

Clare Sisisky, Collegiate’s Institute for Responsible Citizenship Director, says this award is meaningful because it highlights the School’s strong focus this year on growing sustainability in the curriculum in partnership with the science faculty and the STEAM program.

“Collaboration and connection have involved faculty and students from different departments, programs and divisions — all for a stronger sustainability curriculum and understanding for our students,” she said.

The U.S.G.B.C. works with schools, the community and thought leaders in the public and private sectors to “drive progress at the intersection of sustainability, education, public health and the built environment.

The award, which includes a $300 prize to continue the sustainability work, was accepted last night by Collegiate’s Institute for Responsible Citizenship Special Programs Manager Anne Rusbuldt, Middle and Upper School STEAM Coordinator Dan Bartels and Collegiate parent and community mentor Bo Fairlamb.
