David Bannard

33 years

Colleague, mentor, inspiration, friend . . . these words are all interchangeable and come to mind quickly when we think about David Bannard.

Working with David is like having a “Hey Google”, or Alexa, or Siri available at all times. Be it one of his students or a member of the math department, we’ve all made use of David’s incredible wealth of mathematical wisdom. When we have those questions that we’ve wrestled with but haven’t quite fully grasped, David is the one we’ve turned to.  I’ve learned that I need to allocate time for David’s explanations. Like any good teacher, he is not going to just give you the answer, but instead he’ll develop the ideas behind the question, answer the question and then dive into ways to use the topic in a myriad of different ways.

David has provided tremendous leadership over the years. His innovative use of technology, bringing problem-based curriculum to the school, and authoring a trigonometry text, all serve as small examples of this leadership. David’s classroom is a mathematical playground filled with a variety of colorful math manipulatives that help students visualize complex mathematical relationships. Countless students of David have gone on to pursue mathematics in college. He possesses a passion and love for the discipline that is second to none and instills this same passion in his students. He is truly legendary and a beloved member of the Collegiate faculty. It goes without saying that he will be dearly missed.
