Theatrical Production Technician, Part-time beginning January 2019

Collegiate School seeks a Theatrical Production Technician beginning January 2019. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team that supports the vibrant Fine Arts, school community and rental clients. This position will significantly contribute to maintaining the operations of the newly renovated Oates Theater and upholding its reputation as the premier mid-size theater in Central Virginia. This is a part-time, non-benefited, 12-month position.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Provide technical support with lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at all campus venues
  • Setup and strike of lighting and sound equipment for rental clients, specified school rehearsals, productions and assemblies
  • Operatefly rail systems in Oates Theater
  • Operate a variety of power tools 
  • Work with the Hershey Center staff to fulfill daily operation needs 
  • Assist with house management for specified events
  • Assist with ticketing sales 
  • Perform basic maintenance on lighting instruments
  • Maintain and organize the Oates Theater Scene Shop
  • Operate basic video camera
  • Operate software such as QLab, Ustream and iMovie
  • Ability to use Google calendars and apps 
Qualities of a successful candidate will include:
  • Proficient operational knowledge of various lighting consoles including ETC and High-End Systems
  • Expertise of operation in theatrical lighting, sound and projection equipment
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical theater, lighting or sound design, preferred
  • Experience using MS office (Power Point, Excel, and Word) preferred
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of children 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 
  • The ability to lift 75 pounds
  • The willingness to climb ladders and work in catwalks
  • Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
