In a mere four years, Collegiate’s girls varsity golf team has gone from nonexistent to the upper echelon of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association rankings.

The task was Sisyphean, or so it seemed.

As the spring track season neared its conclusion, Collegiate’s coaching staff — all experienced and successful practitioners of the sport in their day — issued the Cougars a time-honored challenge they hoped would resonate in the championship meets: Outperform the performance list.

Welcome, friends. Meet the spring 2026 class of Unsung Seniors, a hardy, resilient, and dedicated group of Collegiate athletes who contributed to the success of their respective teams in their final season wearing the Green and Gold.

In June of 2022 when Patrick Corrigan accepted the position as head men’s basketball coach at Ferrum College, the program was in dire need of a makeover.

They’re talented.

Gather ‘round, friends, and meet the latest class of Unsung Seniors — Collegiate athletes who contributed to the success of their teams during the 2025-26 winter season, but often did so beneath the radar.

The recent ice and snow mix combined with arctic temperatures did absolutely no favors for the hardy souls who populate Collegiate’s winter track team.

They were due.

Life is great when the wind’s at your back, the sun is shining, and the path ahead is smooth and devoid of obstacles.

The experience, exhilarating as it was, would one day come to an end.
